I finally got an evo x(45000 miles, stock) and I'm starting my long journey to 600+hp. I've heard the engines can start blowing up at 350hp or so. If that's the case, should I just rebuild the internals from the start or can I hold off on that?
Also I'm having difficulties finding a decent transmission that will fit to swap that will handle the torque I intend to reach.

You can make 500-600 hp on a stock block but the stock rods tend to fail somewhere North of 400-450tq. If you want something reasonably reliable for a modded car, at 600+hp, you might as well build the engine. Stroker kits help spool big turbos but won't rev as high. You have two options on the transmission side. One is to have your stock transmission built, gears shot peened and detailed. Option two is to have a dog box built. There are options ranging from stock ratio 5-speed builds to 6-speed sequential boxes and they all fit in the factory case. You'll also be looking to ditch the AYC system and get an Evo 9 / Ralliart rear diff built. You'll also have T-Case woes if you have enough rubber to hook it unless you shed a bunch of weight. The car will hold up for a time making 500-600hp but if you plan to drag race it or rag on it daily you'll break stuff. There are a lot of cars that can make more power, go faster, and be more reliable at those levels for a lot less than you'll have into the Evo X platform. They're fun street cars, great track cars, and really shine on a gravel course but they are not the best platform for drag racing/street racing compared to a lot of recent choices. I'm sure somebody is going to disagree and point out fast Evo Xs out there but that's my opinion from being in the DSM/Evo scene for 20 years.

Wow, thank you. Honestly didn't expect this much help. An evo has always been a car on my project list but if you've got other suggestions for my next project car I'm all ears. Aside from the evo I just got, I'm also working on a 280z. I just wanted a decent drift missle and I always appreciated the evo's, but now I'm thinking I might shoot for a solid 450-500hp.

I haven't been in the community as long. Only 10 years but would have to agree. That's all the tech stuff for sure!
Ive personally moved onto an RS3 but I miss the way I had my X set up. It was a very fun car. Only it lacks the power I wanted.
